Winter is the best time of year to see bald eagles at Reelfoot Lake in northwest Tennessee.  The lake was created by earthquakes around the time of the Nation’s founding.  Our road trip there is on January 25, 2020,  will feature lunch at a favorite local catfish restaurant and a guided bus tour through the Park.  We’ll depart from the Memphis/Shelby County Welcome Center just of I-40 in Arlington, TN, head north to Reelfoot Lake State Park, enjoy lunch and then take a guided bus tour with a Park Ranger to hear about the Park’s formation; and hopefully see some eagles in their winter quarters.  The bus tour will cost $14 per person.  After the bus tour, head home at your own schedule.

The drive is about 2-hours, 135 miles each way.  Expect the trip to be an all-day event.

9:30 AM:  Meet at Memphis/Shelby County Welcome Center, 12036 Arlington Trail, Arlington, TN  38002 (exit 25 off I-40 headed east) Departure soon after that time.

12:00 PM:  Lunch at Boyette’s Dining Room  (10 Boyette Rd., Hwy 21 Tiptonville, TN 38079) separate checks, order off-menu.

1:15 PM:   Walk across the street to Reelfoot Lake State Park (2595 Hwy 21 East, Tiptonville, TN 38079) where we will join the bus tour for a 1:30 PM departure for a 2-hour tour of the Park with a Park Ranger with the anticipation of spotting some unique bald eagles and other wildlife sightings.  The cost of the bus trip is $14.00 per person.  The MBCA-Memphis Section has paid a deposit for our group to enjoy this bus trip and future communications will provide details on how individuals can pay for their bus tickets.

Around 5:00 PM:  Return home (you are free to leave anytime after the bus tour)
