Our March First Sunday Drive will take us to Capay Valley where we will enjoy the beauty of the almond tree blossoms. Much of the route will be a repeat of a drive our Club experienced several years ago. There will be planned stops to allow participants to take photos, and we will also have two restroom stops.
Our meeting place will be the Starbucks Coffee Shop at 2021 Bronze Star Drive, Woodland. This is in the Woodland Gateway Shopping Center where the Woodland Costco is, as well as Target and Best Buy Stores. Our meeting time will be at 9:30 a.m., with departure at 10:00 AM.
To reach our meeting place take I-5 Exit #536 and head south on County Road 102. Turn left at a traffic signal onto Maxwell Ave and make your way to the Starbucks.
Almonds are a major agricultural product of California, with the state producing 80% of the world’s almonds and 100% of the US commercial supply. Almonds account for over $5 billion in sales each year and are California’s most valuable export crop. Visiting and viewing the almond blossoms is also a major generator of tourism income for California.
National Almond Day is February 16, 2022. Capay Valley and the town of Esparto will celebrate their 2022 Almond Blossom Festival on February 26 and 27, just a week before our drive. This will be the 107th anniversary of their festival that began in 1915.
Our lunch place will be in the midst of Capay Valley and its almond blossoms, at The Road Trip Bar and Grill at 24989 CA-16.
